Students can study in a friendly, comfortable, spacious and welcoming environment that is solely focused on maximising their study time. The Supervisor on duty will ensure that there is no noise, no distractions and no messing so that all members can study in peace.
✓We are aware that students have busy timetables outside of school and we endeavour to accommodate this; by offering later sessions, students can still attend their after school commitments and then join the later study sessions in the Academy.
✓Mobile phones are not allowed during study sessions. Students must place their phone in a ‘mobile home unit’ area during the sessions so they have no temptations.
✓Students get into a routine of study early on in the year and the pressure and stress of studying last minute is eliminated. We recommend that students join us in the Academy at the start of the academic school year in August/September and that they start as the mean to go on by having an easy to follow routine that is continuous throughout the year
✓Students are supervised by fully qualified, Garda vetted teachers/supervisors on site, who are there to help. Attendance will be recorded for all sessions and monitored.
✓Students have access to an extensive range of study resources including stationery, exam papers in all subjects, textbooks, study guides, wellbeing guides & posters. They will also have access to a computer area which can be booked in advance. There are computer facilities which can be used by students. They can only be booked for 30 minutes as a maximum at any one time and must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
✓The Carlow Academy’s study centre is equipped with a canteen area for students to enjoy their breaks in a sociable setting by mixing with friends and making new ones. Students are encouraged to bring their own food and fruit/healthy snacks to keep them focused and there is a fresh water fountain on site to fill up water bottles. There is also a fridge and a toaster that students can avail of if needs be.
✓Also on site there are bean bags where students can relax during break times and/or reading a book for a break from their desk but they must not disturb any other student/class in the Academy.
✓We keep in contact with parents and update them on our services throughout the year. We also have an absentee text service available.
✓Students are surrounded by like-minded people who have a desire to do well in their exams and they encourage each other to work hard. As a full member students will be able to log in and have a Students Actively Sharing Knowledge forum where members can share ideas and online chats with one another as a support mechanism. These forums will be closely monitored and any forms of misconduct on this forum will result in the member’s log in details being revoked along with a verbal warning (Step 1).
✓As study is offered 24 hours per week over 6 days from Monday to Saturday afternoon, students can get their hard work out of the way and enjoy the rest of the weekend guilt free from 2.15pm onward ☺
