Maths-Junior Cycle, Transition Year & Leaving Cert Information

Scheme of Work for the Junior Cycle Higher Level Maths Weekly Grinds Sessions [for 2nd & 3rd year students]

The new final Junior Cycle exam now consists of only ONE PAPER for both Higher & Ordinary Level exams which is 2 hours in length. This 2 hour paper makes up 90% of the student’s final grade and the other 10% is made up of their Assessment Task (reflection task based on the learning outcomes assessed in CBA2) completed before the final exam in June not long after students submit their Classroom Based Assessment 2 project.

**Both CBA1 (Mathematical Investigation) and CBA2 (Statistical Investigation) are assessed at a common level for all students based on a ‘Features of Quality Framework’ grading system**

Please note the following important points:

**All students must bring their own natural display calculator, formulae & tables log book, maths set and mathematical materials + 1A4 manuscript notes copy**

**Unfortunately sharing of equipment cannot be allowed due to the current health & safety guidelines so students must come prepared with their own materials**

Finally, EXTRA NOTES will be published each week on Edmodo for students to be able to study supplement course material at their own leisure outside of our tuition sessions. We would ask all members to use these digital classrooms platforms on a weekly basis to maximise their overall grade.

Scheme of Work for the ‘4th & 5th Years’ Higher Level Mathematics Weekly Grinds Sessions

**‘Algebra’ forms the entire foundation of the syllabus as it can be seen in almost all other areas of the course so needless to say; any student who wishes to do well in maths must fully understand the pure basics of this fundamental branch of Mathematics. This is why we will spend the first 10 weeks on this heavy weighted topic as algebraic methods are applied on both Paper 1 and Paper 2**

The ‘Big 4’ topics will be covered throughout the year as the bulk of the marks on the Leaving Cert Higher Level papers are weighted on these fundamental maths concepts, which include:

Algebra – Paper 1

Calculus (Differentiation) – Paper 1

Trigonometry – Paper 2

Probability and Statistics – Paper 2

Please note the following important points:

**All students must bring their own natural display calculator, formulae & tables log book, maths set and mathematical materials + 1A4 manuscript notes copy-unfortunately sharing of equipment cannot be allowed due to the current health & safety guidelines so students must come prepared**

Finally, EXTRA NOTES will be published each week on Edmodo for students to be able to study supplement course material at their own leisure outside of our tuition sessions. We would ask all members to use these digital classrooms platforms on a weekly basis to maximise their overall grade.

Finally, so that we can all work from the same textbook and as sharing cannot be allowed due to the current health & safety guidelines, all students signing up for this course must either purchase and bring along the following textbook or alternatively bring along the eBook version & access it on their own computer device as sharing cannot be allowed:
